Just focus on one thing, and do it well!

Often in business (and life), it’s very easy to get overwhelmed by size of the job ahead of you. You know the big picture of what you want to create and you know how to make it happen (well, most of it!), and sometimes you just don’t know where to start, so you don’t. You keep putting things off, and focusing your energy on all the things you need to do. And then you see another thing that needs doing, until you’ve wasted an hour THINKING about everything you need to do, that you have yet to accually DO what you need to do.

This sounds a little like procrastination and to overcome this mindset, all you really need to do is get that big vision and make lots of little tasks.
Write it down. Pick one task, set a time frame and get that one task finished to completion. Rinse and repeat with the remainder of the tasks!

I am the first to admit that this is often easier said than done as the mind is so easily distracted by literally anything. The mind doesn’t like to be focused. It likes being in control and made to feel important by bringing up random things that aren’t even related to getting the task done. Like a child, it wants to focus where it wants to go. It doesn’t like to be told what to do. Your job, is to keep it in check and stay focused, even if it’s just for 20 minutes at a time. You’ll be surprised how much you can accomplish when you truly start focusing on one task at a time and let go of all the other “stuff” that will just get done anyway! Set a timer and keep focused until that timer goes off.

Another tip that helps you to stay focused is to keep a very clean work space with minimal distractions. Put clutter in draws out of sight, don’t have extra tabs open on your browser, put your phone out of reach just for those 20 minutes and it will make life a little easier.

Today, pick one task you’d like to get done, focus and make it happen! No excuses!
